Virginia Operation Chemistry Program
The Virginia Operation Chemistry program is based on the national Operation Chemistry program which was funded by the National Science Foundation and sponsored by the Educational Division of the American Chemical Society.
The purpose of Virginia Operation Chemistry is to educate elementary and middle school teachers in the teaching of science through the use of six-hour workshops. Each workshop consists of many hands-on activities that teachers can take back to their classrooms for use with their students. Each workshop is developmentally appropriate for grades 4-8 and conforms to current teaching and learning practices. A different chemistry concept is described in each workshop. Chemicals and equipment are purchased locally. Each participating teacher received a handout approximately forty pages long along with a certificate of participation.
A list of presented Virginia Operation Chemistry workshops are available.
